Pigoens Deliver Coded Messages

Yesterday we were lucky to have a visit from an organisation called: Flying Back To Nature.
They talked about the role of pigeons in the 1st World War.
Over 100,000 pigeons were used by all sides in the war to deliver coded messages from the front line to headquarters.

The children got to handle some racing pigeons and to attach a coded message.

The pigoens were then released just before 12.00am from the school playground.

Miss Montague (who organised this event) then got an email to say that the pigoens arrived at Kingsmead School (in Staffordshire) - 145 miles away at 3.36pm.
