School Singers Visit Mills Meadow

39 children from Sir Robert Hitcham's visited Framlingham's Mills Meadow Residential Care Home this morning to sing some Christmas Carols for the residents and day visitors. After singing the children were given a drink and some chocolate. They then spent some time chatting with the residents. The whole visit was thouroughly enjoyed by the children and members of Mills Meadow.

Singing Club with Phoenix Singers

Our school singing club (35 children aged 7 - 11) were invited to take part in a carol service with the Phoenix Singers at St. Micael's Church, Framlingham. The service was a mixture of traditional carols sung by the choirs and congregation. We were really proud of the children. They sang beautifully.

Our Year 3 and 4 children also had a carol service (with parents) at St. Michael's Church this week.
Some of the children in Class CA wrote reports on the service:

Christmas Cake Stall Today After School

There are some stunning home made cakes for the cake stall this afternoon. They look too good to eat so I thought it was important to take pictures of these little works of art. Please come to the front playground at 3.00pm today to buy some cakes and support the work of our fantastic Friends Association.

Christmas Dinner followed by entertainment

On Wednesday the whole school enjoyed a fabulous Christmas Dinner. We were joined by special guests such as our governors and helpers. The house captains did a great job as waiters and the staff mucked in as servers and scrapers.

Christmas dinner was followed by an afternoon of entertainment by Sam Walker. This included some funny Christmas videos, some games and stories about Christmas. He also showed us this very sweet Christmas animation (called 'A very special baby')which you can see below.

Class NS / JB Share Afternoon

Class NS / JB enjoyed their share afternoon with parents yesterday. The activities were all on a mathematical Christmas theme. They included tesselating christmas cards, christmas tangrams and oragami christmas trees. It was lovely to see so many parents / carers attend.

Christmas Animations

These animations were created by children in class DB using Animation Shop software.

A group of boys in class DB have also been modelling (in plasticine) some Christmas characters.

SATs Results Published

You may have noticed the SATs results (league tables) in the national and local press today.
Sir Robert Hitcham's most recent results were excellent. According to the East Anglian Daily Times tables SRH is placed 7th in the county. This is for the percentage of children getting level 4 (the National expected standard for most children at the end of year 6) in both maths and english. This year 93% of our children receached this standard. This compares with 73% nationally and 68% in Suffolk.
The 6 schools (in Suffolk) with even higher scores than SRH all have much smaller cohorts. The EADT does not give a score for average points score. Our score of 29.8 (which takes into account the number of children reaching level 5 - higher than the national expectation) is only beaten by 5 schools in the county. In maths for example 64% of our children achieved level 5 this year with 98%. Furthermore the national tables give a Contextual Value Added score. Our score of 100.8 is the 6th highest in the county. This CVA is a good indicator because it shows that we are doing a good job with the children that we have - no matter what their background. Some schools with relatively low SATs scores do have a high CVA. We hope that this helps to explain the tables / figures more clearly.
